This article is based on a content analysis of eight digital news reports published between June 2020 and March 2021 that link anti-Blackness in South Asia to the concerns of #BlackLivesMatter following George Floyd's murder and the heightened global attention to issues of anti-Black racism against African Americans. What are the social, cultural & structural explanations for racial and ethnic inequality in various political-legal-economic systems across national and international lines? How can we measure racial and ethnic discrimination? Why do racial and ethnic inequality continue to persist even when the legal constitutions of democracy forbid their continuation? What does the available data say about racial and ethnic inequalities in different countries? How do different societies across the globe tackle differential treatments with regards to race, class and ethnicity? If the pressure, mandates, and proclamations of multilateral institutions, suchas the United Nations, are inadequate to eradicate racial inequality in many societies, then what must those societies do on their own in terms of social policy and legal transformation to ensure just, equal, and equitable societies which are becoming increasingly diverse and pluralistic? we aim to address the following questions in this volume. In this call for contribution, we are seeking authors for the volume on Racial and Ethnic Inequality. The Series will consist of several volumes, but we will publish an individual call for contributions to each volume separately. We envisage this volume as an important evidence-based reference work for policy makers and researchers to understand the ground realities and practical examples related to poverty, inequality and marginalization in a post-pandemic world.ĭear colleagues, we invite you to take part in the project Mapping Global Inequality - a Major Reference Work Book Series being published by Springer Nature, United States.

We aim to produce this volume in line with the Global Development Goals and the challenges that societies might experience in achieving the SDGs after the outbreak of COVID-19 and beyond. We invite authors at all levels of their career to explore the impact of COVID-19 on rising poverty, inequality and marginalization within the context of their countries. The volume will make an attempt to gain insight into the impact of the pandemic and its spread on economic, political and social life of people in different regions, while examining the after-effects of these events on increasing inequality and poverty.
